The Science Department strives to maximise both classroom challenge and engagement with academic subject matter.

 

Key Employability skills:

Using numbers effectively: measuring, recording measurements, calculating, estimating quantities

Using language effectively: writing clearly, using key terms, writing in a logical manner and presenting concepts logically

Thinking and problem solving: creativity, reflecting on and learning from own actions, prioritizing, analysing situations and developing solutions

Recommended Books:

We have revision guides available for all students in Year 9-11.

Guides are £6 for combined science students, and £4 per guide for triple science.

KS3 Science

KS3 is split over 2 years, and covers the following units from the ‘Smart Science’ scheme of work. The course is designed to provide a solid foundation for progression to KS4 in year 9.

Biol 3: Genetics & Evolution

Chem 1: The Particle Nature of Matter

Chem 2: Atoms, Elements and Compounds

Chem 3: Reactions

Phys 1: Forces & Motion

Phys 2: Levers, Moments & Pressure

Phys 3: Electricity & Electromagnetism

 

Year 8

Biol 4: Photosynthesis, Respiration & Circulation

Biol 5: Reproduction & Growth

Biol 6: Ecosystems

Chem 4: Acids & Alkalis

Chem 5: Materials & everyday chemistry

Chem 6: The Earth & Atmosphere

Phys 4: Energy

Phys 5: Waves

Phys 6: Space

 

KS4 Science

Students opting for Triple Science will be studying the AQA Biology, AQA Chemistry, and AQA Physics courses. Each course is divided into 2 exam papers, each consisting of a number of different units. More information can be found on the AQA website.

Students will sit 6 x 1hr 45 minute exams at the end of Year 11.

Students who do not opt for Triple Science will study the AQA Trilogy Course. Students will sit 6 x 1hr 15 minute exams at the end of Year 11.

There is no coursework or controlled assessment for any of our KS4 courses.

We follow the Collins Scheme of work for all of our GCSE programmes.
