Information on SHARE

Our vision statement

SHARE wants to improve the mental health and emotional well-being of our young people in Secondary and Middle* Schools in Somerset. We want to change our culture by breaking down the stigma of mental health issues, and by helping our young people become more resilient so they are better equipped to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.

SHARE will do this by involving everyone in schools – teaching professionals, young people and parents, volunteers and support staff - and provide them the tools and resources to help recognise, manage and sustain good mental health and emotional well-being.

*Children aged 11-18

SHARE is a countywide project commissioned by Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group and being delivered by Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people aged 11 to 18 years across middle and secondary schools in Somerset. The service has been running since September 2017 having already worked with 12 secondary, middle and special schools across the county.

SHARE is pleased to be working with Stanchester Academy from September 2018 for a full academic year with the aim of working together closely to promote a whole-school approach to emotional health and wellbeing.

The team is made up of 10 from across Somerset and is based at Foundation House in Taunton within the CAMH (Child & Adolescent Mental Health) Service*. Team Project Workers Claire and Gail will be regular visitors to the school, and determined by the needs and requirements of the school over the course of the year will deliver various activities, presentations, assemblies, training and workshops around all sorts of topics focussing on 6 core areas:

Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing

Self-Care

Anxiety

Exam Stress

Social Media & Mental Health

Wellbeing Champions

Examples of the work SHARE has already done in other schools includes, Emotion Coaching training to staff and students, parent information evenings, student and staff drop-ins, topic focussed assemblies, small group work, carousel days, Mindfulness, Tuning into Teens parenting workshops, teacher support sessions, developing a well-being committee & well-being champion programme and offering support around exam stress and school transitions. In addition they will provide access to resources and be able to signpost staff, parents and young people to appropriate training, services and sources of help around mental health and well-being.

*SHARE is not a counselling service and is not commissioned to work with individuals; it is a Tier 1 universal offer working across the school with all students, staff and parents. The Project Workers do not have access to medical records or work with individuals on a one to one basis.
